Statistical Enquiry

Over the last couple of weeks our focus has been statistical enquiry and I finally got my work for it finished. I felt like I did pretty good in the last half of the project, but next time I do this I hope to finally find out how to use google sheets properly. I liked doing the formats like =sum to find out the percentages but I didn't like gathering the data very much. Anyway that was my blog post for Week 7 Term 4 2021! Our learning on fake news!

 Hello! Been a while. This week we did learning on fake news! Fake news is news that is well, fake. You can tell it's fake by looking at other sources or spotting unrealistic things and photoshopping. I learnt that Canva is also a great tool to use, and I recommend you use it too! It's great and very, very easy to use. Actually, Canva is what I used to create my own piece of fake news, look at it! Also, remember to not believe everything you see on the internet. Why you should use Tract!

 Today (3.11.21) we recorded why you should use Tract! I really liked how my 1st video sounded. Next time I hope to speak more clearly. I also hope to achieve better sound and no background noise. I really liked designing the pages. Tract is a very lovely website and you should really use it and check it out! If this doesn't convince you then this video surely will!

Kupu Badge

 This week we created a very cool Kupu Badge for Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori. It could've been more artistic.

I liked all the different colors. Next time I could maybe see if I can add shade. I can also try and make it bigger.

  

Kupe and the Giant Wheke Rampage!

 Week 1 we had to do Kupe and the Giant Wheke, I finished the writing and the slides within a couple of days but Mote the app we use to speak into and then it becomes a audio didn't work so I finished it in week 2. It was challenging writing but the slides were easy. Next time I could try and speak faster because I had to make 2 of each slide to fit my reading in. I think I did really well and I was pleased with myself. Down below is the slides and a link.

New Zealand Map Perfection!

Busy with inquiry, we have been is what Yoda would have said. We made our very own teeny tiny maps of Aotearoa. Anyway, let me start telling you because this is enough intro.

The purpose of this was to learn more about Aotearoa. I think I did pretty well considering I only used shapes. It was really challenging for me to do it but, I got it thanks to Angus (thanks Angus). I could improve more by adding more islands and detail. I definitely enjoyed this task. I could've improved by making more texture but, it is what it is. Anyway thanks for reading my blog!

Te-Ika-A-Maui

 Te-Ika-a-Maui is the story of how Maui pulled a fish out of the water which became the North Island. I will stop explaining here because I created my own wonderful slides of the story, which I will show to you at the end of the blog. The most challenging part was to write the story in my own words. It took me a couple days but I got it in the end. I enjoyed making the voices for the slides, but I struggled with some words. Next time I could try to talk more fluently. I could also try and get more sounds into my slides. Take a closer look at my slides! 

Writing Sample Madness!

 Wow! Last week was such a busy week with Ultimate Frisbee, Writing Samples, and much more. We were tested on the 16th of June (Last week). It was really challenging to write it. But yesterday we put it into Write That Essay and I got my feedback to 98%. It was stuck on 98% and really frustrating to get it higher. Next time I could use more sentences types and try to use less exclamation marks. I also started repeating sentences in the introduction. Jughead comes to life! (Almost)

 This is my new character named Jughead! He's in progress because it took me a really long time to polyline it all. Next time I should zoom out more and then polyline, because doing it zoomed in takes longer to trace but looks less bumpy. I should also make it look more round instead of so bumpy because it delivers a better look. I should also do it faster because I run out of time everytime. I could improve on is to make it seem more realistic. Overall I think I did pretty well. I also think it's my best polyline character I've done yet. It was challenging to polyline it and very painful but I'm surprised I made it this far!

 

Top Shortcut for All! (In my opinion.)

 Another blog post done! This time I will share with you some learning we did in Manaikalani digital dig.

In this activity we were doing a digital  dig and this poster was to share a top shortcut we learnt. I think I did a good job with the backgrounds and text fonts. Next time I should try to get the poster to catch people’s eyes better. I also think I can improve by making the writing longer.

T-Shirts ARE TOO EXPENSIVE!

We made a drawing of a image we got on a spin the wheel. It was very fun

I found it challenging to trace the images exactly how they looked. I also think next time I should try to do it without tracing. I also thought I did good considering how bad at drawing I am. Mostly it was easy but some parts were hard. I liked doing this and I should do it more. Next time I should make it look more smooth.

 

 

My Super Hard Animated Profile

Wooohoooo! My first blog of 2021! I'm very excited about this and I will now proceed to share my learning.

We learnt how to make animated profiles to show what we're all about. It's was kinda hard making the animation but I got it in the end.

In this DLO we made a animation which describes us. I enjoyed making the animation because it was fun seeing it in it's animated form. I found it hard to animate the slides because it was my first time animating slides. Next time I might need to make the animation longer because it was really jumpy. Next time I might also try and get a better catchy title. In the end this was challenging.

Intermediate Visit Blog Post

 Wow! Intermediate visit was the BEST! The beginning was boring but it went from boring to fun REAL QUICK!

We gathered in the principal started calling people's letters on their hands. The 1st group went to fill out the form, while the others listened to the principal. Next we filled out the forms. When we went to get fizzy and ice blocks I realized I forgot my hat in the classroom. 

We had lunch and had a bit of a play. Their bell sounded like a fire alarm! I was still eating my PB sandwich while the other kids had a play. We started playing with the Tabloids equipment, but lunch ended and we changed into out togs. 

We got into our lines. We walked over to the fire brigade, when suddenly it started spraying water. Everyone went crazy and started running through the water. The pressure wasn't as bad as I thought, but it still hurt. The water was also extremely cold, so I was freezing. 

We rotated through the stations, but we missed out on the water slide because the weather was not very good and everyone was cold. After what seemed forever, we finally got onto the bus. The visit was AMAZING!

Kapa Haka was crazy! After what seemed forever the bus arrived. On the bus I was slowly going insane. Everyone kept singing Kapa Haka songs. We sat on the wet grass and warmed up for our performance. Suddenly, Koka Rozie said that the 2nd row of boys can't wear shorts. I was confused because we saw a email saying, "1st and 2nd row black undies." But at the dress rehearsal the next day they said 1st row black undies and 2nd row black shorts with skirts. But fortunately I brought back-up black undies. 

We were close to our performance now. My feet hurt as I walked across the hard rocks to the stage. We sat on the cold concrete for a while. Sitting on concrete on a cold day is not a good idea. It makes you feel like a icicle. The loud noises of the entire Moana Syndicate climbing metal steps is not a lovely sound. I felt nervous standing in front of all those people. The performance began.

Bundled up in a huge group made our voices loud. We sang E Te Ariki. The noise of clapping travelled through our ears when the song ended. We sang Utaina loud and strong, when we got back into our positions. The boys started moving forward. A couple of songs later we were at the Haka. 

"TARINGA WHAKARONGO. TITIRO MAI KI AU!" Yelled the leader fiercely. Loud slaps against our arms filled the stage. Again, like every other song or Haka, once we finished it there was lots of clapping. Now it was time for the last Haka, Ka Mate. 

"TARINGA WHAKARONGO, KIA RITE KIA RITE, KIA MO! " Yelled the leader. After the rest of the performance. We left the stage and sat down. After what seemed forever, The Moana, Nui, and Wai Syndicate performed together. The loud singing filled the entire hall. We met outside again and rode the bus to school with red marks on our, chests, arms, and legs.

Week 4 Term 4 Blog post

 Man the beginning of this week was CRAZY! 

On Monday we had writing samples until Morning Tea. After Morning Tea we had speech finals until lunchtime. The winners were: Klara (Y5) and Naia (Y6). The people that went to the finals were: Ben and Zofia (Y6), Klara, Charlotte M(Y5) in R2. In Room 3 was: Mako and Naia (Y6) and Rio (Y5).

On Tuesday we went to school photos! We're also starting PBL next week. I also found out that my score for my writing sample was 31! And we also had learning through play! On Wednesday they told us that the chess tournament will be next week on Wednesday! We need an adult and transport and permission to go! I'm really excited about the chess!

Craft Fair is next week as well! This term is going by so fast! We also got Maths-Whizz extended for 1 more week! We're also making new calendar art! This is my progress so far!

Term 4 is going to be CRAZY!!!!

 It's the 1st week of term 4 and oh man... IT'S CRAZY! But to not spoil it for you I will only write about this week. 

A new change is that every morning we line up for Kapa Haka and instead of LTP we have athletics practice. Year six camp is also next week and unfortunately Splash Planet is closed. ;-;. So for the meanwhile at camp were going to learn new stuff but we'll also not be able to sleep at the aquarium. 

We also have speeches in Week 3 on Thursday. I have finished writing my speech but now I need to practice it! We also went to a Monarch/ Butterfly show on Wednesday and it was amazing! At athletics practice we did ball throw, 200m sprint, 50m sprint, long jump, high jump. 

In the Monarch butterfly show they did a act about a transport company that wants to build a road through the lavacreak bush (This is not a real place) and they're chopping down all the plants to make way but it's destroying the butterflies home. So an old grandma which is a scientist decides to go to the environment court but when she's about to go a scientist that works for the transport company ties her up but she has to go, because her nanna is in hospital.  The granny doesn't make it to court so her granddaughter has to tell her speech in front of everyone. They end up stopping the plan to build a road. 

For my athletics I really enjoyed ball throw. Although I didn't throw the ball far, I enjoyed it and felt like I'm best at that. After ball throw we went to 200m sprints and 50m sprints. The 200m was really exhausting but the 50m sprint was fun! The next day we got to long jump and high jump. I was improving and getting better at long jump than last year. But I feel like I got worse at high jump because I couldn't even jump over the lowest! So I need to improve at high jump. 

Final week of PBL in Term 3

 Wow... the time flies by so fast! It's the final week of PBL in Term 3! We finally made some progress this week. Monday was cross country so we didn't do it then. On Tuesday we finally started! Because Angus kept forgetting pine cones, Koka Ngaire suggested that we use fronds! We went to the medicinal garden, dipped the fronds in the peanut butter and started hanging them. Mako climbed up the tree and we hanged about 4-6. There was still lots left but we decided to go back to class.

The next day we were busy for a bit and then after morning tea, we did Kapa Haka then we went to go hang the rest of the bird feeders. We didn't do as much but we still did lots. But we made too many bird feeders and we still have lots sitting in the box with the bird seeds, the string, and the peanut butter! Koka Ngaire also took pictures of our bird feeders so I will share them at the end of my blog post!

At the end of the day we didn't manage to finish everything but we did start on our reflection.

Going to Pihitia Station!

On the bus on the way to Pihitia Station I watched Tay do the Weekly Round-up video. Once we arrived at Pihitia Station it IMMEDIATELY smelled bad but I got used to it. They split us into groups and off we went. The 1st station I went to was the butchering station. Louie stepped away from the station since he was vegetarian. They showed us where the lamb chops came from and they also told us that we can make sausages with a certain part.

Fast forward a bit (Other stations were pretty boring) and were at cattle station. We weighed them to see if they were big enough to go to the processing plant. Sheep over 55kg go to the processing plant. Others don't. After that we went to go see the sheep and Angus's mom whistled commands to the dogs and they chased the sheep around. Then we went back and Angus's dad showed us a drone and also chased some sheep.

Then we went to go watch them shear some sheep. I got to drag the sheep out when we arrived and I was also in the newspaper a day later. Then after they sheared the sheep they explained facts about wool and ect. Then it was morning tea and we ate our food. Then it was the last station.

 

This station was the pest station.   

They showed us some native birds and traps. There was this LOUD trap the literally almost popped your eardrums! Then he played some bird sounds and we had to guess. But he kept on showing the phone without knowing so some people looked! Once we left we ate the rest of our food and left.

PBL Week 3!
